Dude! Where's my stuff?

I talked to our "moving coordinator" the other day to discuss a couple of things that were broken in the move. My daughter had two of her precious moments figurines broken. They were special to her so I'm gonna try to get them replaced. The other things that were broken were two plaster mice my mother painted for me when I was a child. How do you put a dollar amount on those? To be completely honest I think I am at fault for their breakage. They were in a box that we packed when we moved from Colorado to New Mexico. I really thought the movers would repack our boxes to ensure things were packed to their specs. My bad. That's what makes it worse. It's probably my packing that got them broken.

The other issue I had with the movers is that my bed posts are missing. I have the headboard but not the posts that go with it. I waited to tell him about it until I had emptied all the boxes. Well they are empty and there are no posts. In addition to that I keep thinking other things are missing like a stationary bike, another piece of exercise equipment and a couple of bikes. The problem is that while they were loading the storage unit I had to take the kids back to the apartment. It was freezing that morning and it was too cold to keep them there. So I didn't witness them loading the truck. For all I know the other guy who was moving to Florida has my stuff or it's sitting in a warehouse somewhere. I can't prove that it ever made it on the truck though. Man! I wish I could remember what was in that storage unit!

I have moved plenty of times in my life but I have to say I learned a lot from this one.

that totally sucks! You just never know about movers. I have wanted to use movers a few times but I am too protective of my things to let anyone else move them. I can't imagine how hard it is to move from another state and trust someone else with my possesions...I hope you find your bed posts and all the other missing items.

Don't try to prove anything. Just call them and tell then what is missing and broken. Go ahead and pitch a total fit. You can't loose anything by it, only possibly gain, right?

I will have to remember this if we ever do move to Texas and hire movers. And they are supposed to repack your stuff. I wouldn't even mention to them you think it is your fault, they don't need to know unless they bring it up, ok? It also means they were probably rough with your stuff, too.

Hope you get compensated for the lost and broken stuff.
And I think you should just tell them what you think is missing too..

Hate movers, totally hate 'em. Don't like 'em, don't trust 'em. Anyway, I think you should just go pitch a big ole roaring fit on them, you know just for the fun of it. But that's just me;)

Def call them and do not admit that any of it is your fault. Have a total amount of the values just in case they ask.

Good luck!

Depending how much trouble you're willing to go to - maybe call the storage facility - almost all of them have security cameras recording 24/7. It's very possible they still have the footage from the day the movers were there. I think they keep 30 days back.
Otherwise I'd call the moving company and report the missing property. If you don't have it and you know you didn't sale it at some point- it should have been delivered yeh? If the movers put it on the wrong truck or stuck it in a warehouse - it's their responsibility to find it.

good luck.
hope you find your stuff.
