I'm having CCB withdrawals. After having him all to myself for 4 days it was tough to send him off to work today. I swear I would love to be independently wealthy so he could stay home with me. Sure, I'd send him out to go play golf and stuff but I'd get to see him so much more than I do now...
What did I do during those four days you ask? Sure, I'll tell you!
On Thursday we went to the DMV to get our drivers licenses. We waited in line for a while (no small feat with a two year old). When they called my husbands number he went in and after just a minute or two he came back. Apparently the require a birth certificate to get a drivers license here. We drove back home and I fished out our birth certificates and we returned to the DMV. There weren't many people in front of us but half the staff had gone to lunch so the line was moving slower than it had been earlier. We finally got our drivers licenses! After lunch my hubby took our vehicles to get their safety inspections. This "good ol' boy" gave CCB an earful let me tell you. (I think he wrote about it in his blog if you care to see.) In the end we had to peel the tint off our front two windows. It was too dark for LA. Now my car looks stupid with the dark tint in the back and no tint on the front. Nice.
On Friday we returned to the DMV to register our cars and get new license plates. Once again I didn't have all the paper work I needed. You see LA really wants to sock it to me, I had to produce the original bills of sale for both vehicles to prove that I paid sales tax on them! Even though they were purchased in Colorado. I was only able to come up with the proof for my husbands truck. (I'm afraid I might have shredded the other one in the great shred event last week.) So I had to pay 9% sales tax on my car (that I had already paid sales tax for) and it was waived for the truck. We walked out of their 471.00 dollars poorer! In new Mexico it would have cost us 90 dollars. Yeah I was a little miffed.
Saturday my daughter requested that we go to the "Mall of Louisiana". She wanted to go to the Wacky Bear factory. This is a store where you pick the animal you want, you can choose to put a sound box in it and you wish on a heart and put it inside as well. Then you give it to an employee and they stuff it. After that you can pick out clothes to dress it in and get a "birth certificate" for it. We made one of these for my daughter shortly before my son was born, we had a "fun day" for her because we knew things were about to get crazy with a new baby. I didn't know that that would create a monster! She loves these things! When we got home we put my son down for a nap and the 3 of us played Trivial Pursuit. I don't know why we don't do that more often.
Sunday we over slept and didn't get to try the new church we picked out. I did however get all the stuff we wanted to donate to Goodwill out of my house! That is a big deal! It has been in the corner since we got here, so now it looks a little strange! After that my daughter and I got groceries and birthday gifts for my son. Later that afternoon (when my son was asleep) we got out the board game Tribond and played that with my daughter. She is getting old enough now she can play some of these games we haven't been able to play forever. We decided that Sunday afternoons should be game time. It gets us all around the table and enjoying each others company. It's too easy to get caught up doing "other stuff". I want to make this stick.
We didn't do anything exciting, but I was with my man. That in itself makes me a happy woman.
I should probably add that the registration was for 2 years on my car and 4 years for the truck. We didn't ASK for long term registration they just gave it. We won't have the truck for 4 years! I'd be surprised if it's around at the end of this year. I better stop before I go on another tirade.

Awww, I'm glad you got to spend a long weekend with your hubby!
Btw, game day sounds like a great idea! We should start that up here as well.
Ahh yes, gotta love the DMV .. It's just as bad here in Canada, and yes, every province has different laws and taxes, same as in the states.
Busy errand days, yuck! We have been here since august and I still have my ND drivers license, and we moved here from WY! (as students we didn't have to change in WY, thank god!)
Yes, different state, different laws. It's too bad that you couldn't find your original tax receipt on the car. I wonder if you could have called the dealershipyou bought it from and had them fax a copy to you. It still might be a good idea, just in case you need it again. Make sure you keep your receipts from the DMV.
Glad you had four days with your husband, even if all you did was necessary "stuff".
dmv is hell on earth. in hell form.
I had to go back and read everything again, because I got all mixed up thinking that for some reason you were in Los Angeles. It's hard for us northern grannies to keep up.
