So we've been in our new home for 21 days now. Being the beginning of the month we are starting to receive some of the bills for our utilities etc. I got a bill yesterday from Entergy that nearly gave me a heart attack! For 16 days of service I have to pay $181.09! Here is how it breaks down"
Customer Charge 2.38
Entergy Charge 52.95
Formula Rate plan 4.24
Fuel Adjustment 103.09
Connect fee 18.00
SIXTEEN DAYS! This "fuel adjustment" thing is twice my "entergy charge"! When I called to find out what the deal with this was the customer service fella (who was very nice by the way) told me that those are government mandated charges. I thought we would get a price break on our utilities when I found out my house is all electric. We don't use gas at all and yet......181.09. I asked him if it was a regular thing to get these adjustments and he told me he figures he has shelled out 1500.00 in adjustments in the last year. NICE.
On top of that these bills come out of New Orleans. Why is that significant you ask? Well the mail system there still pretty much sucks so this customer service fella (did I mention he was very helpful?) told me that the only sure fire way to ensure that they receive my payment on time is to take it to a designated pay site. He said the mail is very slow and that their computer system is unreliable and electronic payments aren't always received either. HA!
Welcome to Louisiana OGO! Now bend over.

In my limited experience there is no way to win at energy costs. Bending over is the only thing to do, ha,ha..
Oh, not fun! And I thought we had it bad in Ohio.
And Louisiana sounded like such a nice place....
Crappy. Super crappy, even.
Yes, welcome to the south! They started that "fuel adjustment" crap about a year ago. Last month I paid about $350.00 between electric and gas. Not Fun! Hang on to your hat, wait till summer when the electic bill will be out of this world.....
Need extra income, let me know and I will interview you for my company.
sounds like helpful guy got off easy last year. If you're paying $103 for 16 days worth, you'll be dishing out $2350 a year. yikes!
Are those paid monthly, or just whenever? My energy bill doubled last month. It was over $200! With no adjustments- the prices have just become insane!
Gabby- I know it sounds strange to me too.
H&B- I guess I'll be grabbin my ankles.
Trinity-I think it's bad all over. I just have never seen anything like a "fuel adjustment" charge.
Lorna- I thought so too!
Miss Jay- Crappity crap crap!
Lucy- The customer service guy said they expected them to stop in Nov but they haven't. Then he gave some long speil about Opec...
Tim-That would suck!
Dawn Marie- My understanding is that they aren't monthly just periodically. Lucy could probably clarify that one.
oh that BLOWS! I hope it gets better for you. I hate bills!
