This moved me. I'm getting sappy in my old age.

I just got home from my daughters DARE graduation. It is a sign she is growing up. We've discussed drugs and alcohol since she was little. My thoughts being that if she grows up hearing it she might believe it. The reality is that she's at the age when she may receive pressure to do drugs and other stuff that I don't EVEN want to think about. Things we weren't faced with until we were much older. She is a good kid and a rule follower at heart so I have hope.
I gotta brag on their DARE officer. He suffered through a whole program and presentation with what they believe to be appendicitis. That would explain why his face was so red. He knew it meant a lot to the kids that HE give them their diplomas so he stayed. What a guy.
Have a great Thursday!

WOW, that is dedication. I think the DARE program is great. Even if these kids that participate in this program get older and are peer pressured into trying drugs or alcohol I have a feeling they think twice and are far less likely to go through with it or get mixed up in the wrong crowd. I'm glad your daughter graduated. Congrats to her!
That is dedication. Impressive.
Also, re: the free hugs - that was awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Well done to your daughter on her DARE graduation!
I have just watched the Free Hugs, it's wonderful. I'm sat here with a big stupid grin and a tear in my eye, thank you so much for sharing it.
Congratulations to your daughter on her DARE graduation.
I liked the free hugs movie. I'm thinking of trying that here. Maybe $5 a hug or something, ha,ha..
Your tender heart overwhelms me with pride!
It is a shame that kids have to learn these things at such an early age, but it is imperative that they know the conquences of their actions. Glad she graduated. I hope her instructor is doing better.
Everyone needs a good hug.
That's not dedication...that's sheer lunacy. ;)
Steve~
I wish the schools would do something other than the dare program. It has been shown to not be effective. The only reason it still is in effect is because cops enjoy doing the program. The "cool thing" to do now a days is to get high while wearing your dare t-shirt. I was too old to have the Dare program.
WoW! I saw a "free hugs" video a while ago and posted about it on my blog, too (my name links to the specific post). It was a guy in Korea. Same song. Apparently it's movement!
It touched me, too.
