I hope you all had very happy and safe New Years celebrations. We repeated what has become a tradition for us. We did our toasts with fancy soda (This years choice IBC cream soda.) in wine glasses. We started this when I was pregnant and couldn't drink. Then it carried over so that my daughter could partake in a holiday toast as well. Lame? Perhaps. It suits us. I guess that means we're lame! Ha ha ha!I've also discovered this year that I've become a fuddy duddy. I didn't enjoy the 5 1/2 hours of fireworks that the neighbors torched. It didn't bother me till I was trying to go to sleep. I was hoping they would run out by midnight but NO! They went well into the New Year. I don't know how much money they dumped into those fireworks but I can guarantee that I could have found something much better to do with that money!
Oh and then there are the neighbor girls. Their house sits on the corner next to our house. Their home faces the cross street though. Their back porch is just over the fence from my bedroom. All weekend they had guests over. Each time the guests spilled out onto their patio where they proceeded to get loud. Back when I was young I mighta been out on that patio too but now I'm an old crone who needs her rest! My how times have changed. All I could think of was how much I wanted to turn the tables and march up to my side of the fence and blow noise makers and crash cymbals early this morning. They kept me up late, I'll get them up early. Not only am I an old fuddy duddy crone but I'm vindictive too. I should probably redo those New years resolutions huh?
I hope you all have the best New Year yet!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
If you're turning into an old fuddy duddy then I am too, it must be our age haha! Just what is it with people and fireworks? They started here at 3am, and I was narked. Lucky they stopped before I called the Council noise patrol or went out there myself to shove one up their
Ohhh..I would pay good money to see you crashin the cymbals real early in the am..pots and pans are terrific noisemakers too! Lawnmowers, chainsaws also work. Nah I don't thinkyou're a fuddy duddy..and I like the idea for New Years toasts that your kds can participate in. Happy New Year from the Back Forty!
Where Mr. Funky used to live in DC we had the same problem with fire works on NYE and on the 4th of July. It wasn't a predominently "upper class" neighborhood so no offense to them, but I often wondered where the hell the neighbors got the money to spend on that many fire works! The last time they kept us up until almost 6am. If it weren't for my fear of being shot (yes, they were on the cusp of the hood) I would have gone outside and told them to shut the fuck up or I was calling the police....but instead I burried my head under many pillows, cussed them, their mothers, and my beloved husband and promised to never sleep there again on an occassion where fire works were an option! Good luck to you for next year. Oh and I love your soda toast. What a nice way to include the kids and make them feel special drinking out of "fancy" glasses!
Let's hear it for fuddy duddies! We didn't even stay awake til midnight...(I was never a big New Year's Eve kinda girl)...I'll go out every 5 years or so...but nothing good ever comes of that...so...it's better if I stay home.
Happy New Year (I'm saying it quietly...so you can finally get some rest).
I didn't die in a fiery car crash, so I consider this a GREAT NEW YEAR. Have a happy one!
You have exciting neighbors. Mine just turned off their lights at about 10pm and stayed really, really quiet..
