A while back I went on a spree of adding all sorts of extras to my blog. I added visitor maps, a time and temp thingy, quotes, and plenty o' crap besides. One of the things I added was a stat counter. In the beginning I was quite interested in how many hits I was getting, but the longer I did it I really didn't care anymore. It was just nice to see my regulars stop by and leaving their comments. I was content.
Fast forward to this morning. I got a couple of emails in my junk mail that mentioned stat counters. I thought, "I have a stat counter!" So after eons I decided to log in. I looked at all sorts of lists, charts, and graphs. Most of which meant nothing to me. Anyway, I saw plenty of people I didn't recognize. DON'T FREAK OUT! I didn't see who you/they were just the cities you/they were from. Oodles spent less than a second at my place but some had been back several times. I was happy and sad. Happy to see someone new, and sad that I don't know who they are so I can get to know them better.
It took all of that to say, "HI" to those of you who don't comment!
How many of you have stat counters, do you check them regularly or do you forget about them like me?

I check mine all the time, not because I care how many visitors I get, but I've found that when someone comes to my site it's because it's thier time of the day to blog, so there's a good chance they have updated thier blog. It's my lazy man's version of bloglines.
Nah, man. Stat counters depress me. Plus, they kinda make you lose sight of why you're doing this.
I don't have a stat counter because I don't want to get disappointed. But WordPress has this thing that shows me the top incoming links from other blogs, and it's interesting when a new blog pops up and they've got me linked but I've got no clue who they are... why don't these people comment?!
Have you gone to the ageless project http://jenett.org/ageless/
You will love searching those blogs and finding friends. I read a lot of blogs and count the folks as friends but don't always comment. I don't have a stat counter??? I blog more for myself as journaling and because I can't remember anything without writing it down.
nope. no stat counter here. if i had one i might get addicted to looking at it...
Me neither too, for all the above reasons except Livethingy. I know what you mean about lost opportunity though---once I got a comment, checked that person's blog and found she'd been commenting about me on her blog, but not to me---it was nice in a way, but sad too because I could have been enjoying her posts long before I did
I have a stat counter and I look at it all the time. I love knowing how people found me. Sadly a lot of hits come because I mentioned Big Brother once!
Anyway, I read your blog a lot but don't comment very much. Also I've just set up bloglines since I've got too many bookmarks to manage easily.
I have one. I used to check it all the time because it was new and fun. Now I rarely look any more. I already know who comes by for the most part.
I have one & thought it was so interesting...at first too. I rarely check it now...bit it's fun to see who comes & doesn't comment & how long they stay & if anyone you know reads your blog & doesn't tell you...then laughs at you behind your back...I'm just saying...ok...maybe it's happened to me & then I wanted to hurt them for all the laughing.
I've been lurking for about a week now. So "HI" from Calgary, Alberta.
It's one of those things I keep meaning to do, but never get round to. If you stop reading my blog OGO I'm sure my readership will fall by half. Have a great weekend!
