I mailed off my tax return for the state of Louisiana on February 5th. It is now May 9th and I haven't received my return. I have proof that it has been received and who signed for it so I decided to make some calls and find out what the deal was. The fabulous woman with the sparkling personality who took my phone call told me that it had indeed been received and that it was flagged for review. Fear immediately shot through me. What was wrong? She said they needed a copy of the tax return we submitted to NM. I admit I screwed up. I take full responsibility for that. HOWEVER.....My return has been sitting there for 3 MONTHS! No one thought perhaps I should be notified of my error? No one thought a notice in the mail was in order? I guess not. I asked the fabulous lady with the sparkling personality if I needed to wait for a notice or something so I'd know what info to include and who to send it to. She said that our phone call WAS my notice! I don't need to address it to anyone in particular, I'm just supposed to write our SSN on the cover sheet and some magic fairy will match them up I guess. If I fax it she said it could take up to 6 weeks to get the money back. If I mail it it could take 16 weeks. All that on top of the 3 months I've already been waiting.
Yeah, I'm a little peeved.

Wait... WTF... they expected you to call asking about and then say that YOUR PHONE CALL TO THEM was your notice? That's BS!
Did you get her name and ID#? They are supposed to give that out, I would write it down in an important place, so that if there are furture complications, you know who gave you the "Offical Notice"....

Ooohhh that would burn me up too! I somehow got my state return back quickly and then my federal took FOREVER and I wasn't quite sure why. You can also check on IRS.org for that info but you have to know your exact amount that you're getting back.
Well, sorry that it's taking so long and that, well, the IRS employees are complete and utter morons! I am glad you called tho, aren't you?
If it weren't for the amazing sunset I can see out my window, I'd be banging my head against the bricks on my balcony for ever having let the government find out who I was....
