Scared straight!

Have you ever had something scare you so bad that after it was all over and done with you felt the tears start to flow? That happened to me today. Let me explain.

I enjoy taking walks, our town is not exactly walker friendly though. There are very few crosswalks and sidewalks are scarce as well. Anyway....I needed a loaf of bread and figured it was so nice outside we'd just walk the block and a half to the store. It's not a great distance but there is one VERY busy road that we have to cross. One busy road with no crosswalk. We got to the intersection and waited for the light to turn green for our direction and made it across with no troubles. We purchased our bread and started home.

This is where it got scary.

We waited on the corner for the light to turn green. I saw the traffic in front of us stop and looked up to see that they had the red light. We jogged out into the street and when we got to the turning lane in the middle of the road it dawned on me that the light for our direction was only a turning light. Not a full green light. My daughter was gettin' her jog on and the dump truck in the next lane was barrelling down on us! I knew she couldn't make it across and there was no way the truck could stop without hitting her. He was going way to fast! Luckily she had stayed close enough to me and the stroller that I was able to reach out and grab her arm. My heart was racing but we were safe in the turning lane until there was a break in the traffic.

We finally got across the final two lanes of traffic and were safely on our side street. The tears started to flow and I was shaking. The thought of that big ole truck hitting my baby girl was too much. Sure she was safe but my head kept playing the scenario over and over in my head. OH and the thought that it was all my fault was even more disturbing. If she'd been hit it would have been because of me. I got my tears under control, my daughter soothed me with her arm around me telling me it was alright and we finished the short walk home. When we got here I just had to hold her for a minute then I felt better. I don't think I'll be walking to the grocery store with my kids anymore.

Sidenote- My Glucose Tolerance Test came back abnormal. I go to talk to the doctor tomorrow.

You were very lucky that you didn't get hit. Count your blessings and hug that little girl again.

Holy Cow! Yes, that is pretty scary! I am glad that you were able to pull her out of the way.

My scary moment was when my bus driver tried to out run a train.

Has your heart stopped racing yet? Wow...that scared me and I wasn't even there! And the fact that your daughter comforted you...well, that made me a little misty eyed I must admit. What a great daughter is she...she has her mom's momma genes:)

Prayers are being sent for you on the glucose....relax, if you can. God's got ya covered:)

Oh how terrifying. I also have a terrifying moment - when my son was quite small, he managed to put a knife in the toaster while I went to the toilet. Thank god for the electrical safety switch - my son was fine (the knife didn't fare as well, it has a couple of melty spots on it). It wasn't until after I'd got him away and made sure he was safe that the tears flowed.

It was a loooong time before I went to the bathroom alone again.

Hope the gtt results aren't too scary.

You've got a lovely and sensible daughter for staying close to you. She's a level-headed girl, you must be proud. It would not have been your fault - that truck was going way too fast in a built-up area. But anyway you all walked away from it in one piece which I'm thankful for!

Good luck with the doctor today, I hope it's something they can sort out with minimum inconvenience to you. Sending good vibes your way.

That's so scary... I'm glad she's alright, but man, I know what you mean. Stuff like that makes me feel like I could vomit.
