Halloween rant

We hiked around for 40 minutes. We walked about 7 blocks (my 3 year old insisted on walking) and only found 5 houses giving out candy. FIVE. Bah humbug!

I hate it when people leave their porch light on but don't answer the door for little kids when they come trick or treating. It's rude. When I was a kid the porch light was your cue to a candy house!

It's also rude to put out all sorts of halloweeny decorations well before the 31st then not give out candy on the big night. You know the kids are just salivating over your house only to find that you suck. Not cool.

The fact no one gave out candy makes me thing that Halloween is dying, yet Walmart has a ton of Halloween crap for sale. Not just costumes but candy and decorations.......HUGE inflatable decorations! Someone must be interested. I wanna know where THEY live! Eh. They probably wouldn't give out any candy anyway.

Truth be told we came out with WAY more candy than my children will ever be able to finish. Even if I help! We went to the Boo at the Zoo, hit those 5 houses and ended up at a harvest festival at a nearby church. They made a haul to be sure. (ONLY Because we went to organized events!) I only wish we got more chocolate.*grin* It's probably for the best. I don't NEED to be helping.

I thought it was like the unspoken law? The porch light is on, that's saying hey, we have candy... I mean, seriously.

Hallowwen sucks. It use to be such a fun thing, but people mostly just get hammered. It really sucks to be a kid in America these days.

Halloween is something we never did as a kid over here, as Bonfire Night was less than a week away. We forgot to buy candy and was going to give money instead, but nobody came.

One year Mr T (before he met me and when he smoked) had trick or treaters come round who were in their early teens. He had no candy in so he gave them cigarettes instead and they were delighted!!

Hmmm, my grandchildren had a different experience....they ran out of energy before they could finish the streets in the neighbourhood, and up here, the porch light still means come and get it.

Well, we had more kids than I have seen in a long time, every few seconds the door bell rang. I had plenty of candy to hand out and had a great time doing it.

This year I bought some orange lights that I strung around the arch in our entry way, it attracted plenty of people. I have to admit that I saw some pretty cute children, especially the little ones. I told my daughter that Jocelyne had some pretty stiff competition on cute.

And cacaboy - you know why Halloween has changed over the years, it is not as safe as it used to be for the kids to be out trick or treating. Yes, it stinks but that is the way of the world.

You guys have to come to my old neighborhood...we used to answer the door to over 100 kids & had to actually make a candy run on some years because all the candy was given out.

Good luck not helping with that candy ; )

Times have changed. I grew up in small towns and the parents just turned us loose. It was a wonderful time with no fear of pins in candy or fear of abduction. Now we turn our light off because we started getting some pretty adult looking trick-or-treaters.
