Love to eat turkey

Whew! It feels like I've been in a whirlwind for the past few days. My in-laws came a day early, which was fine by me but I wasn't entirely prepared for their visit. I still had things to clean and prepping to do. My son had come down with some sort of bug and his fever was making him uncomfortable and clingy. I finally decided that they had raised kids and put on family meals so they would just have to understand if things weren't quite up to par.

My boy wrestled with his fever off and on for days before it mellowed into a cough and gooey nose. He still managed to have a good time with his Grammy and Pop Pop when his fever would break.

The Thanksgiving meal went off without a hitch and the bird was falling off the bone by "go" time. This year I mixed olive oil with garlic, rosemary and basil and worked it in between the skin and the meat. Perfection! After we had everything cleaned up we dove into my tubs of Christmas decorations and my house looks beautiful! It was so much fun to decorate with my mom in law again. I really miss our interactions.

Today my beloved in laws set out for home. Even now I find myself getting teary thinking about them leaving. It may not be the norm but I truly love my in-laws. I miss not living in the same town. It makes me sad that my little boy doesn't have all the memories of being with his grandparents that my daughter does. Who knows maybe someday we will live close again but in the mean time I'll just have to make sure we make the most of the times we do get. I guess. *sigh*

I hope you had a wonderful holiday.

It is wonderful to have family around. I'm glad your son has broke his fever and is feeling better.

TF and I cleaned the house for several days getting ready for the event. We had a 22 pound turkey and it was plenty for everyone. I put the bones in my stock pot before going to bed and let it cook on the stove, on simmer, all night long. I got one and a half gallons of pure stock from those bones.... I put it in the frig to defat it and tomorrow I will put it in quart sized freezer bags and freeze it. It makes such a good base for soup.

I took a long nap today and by tomorrow I will be back to normal. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving.

You're so lucky having nice in-laws. My in-laws are wonderful and I love them both to pieces. My ex-in-laws (especially the m-i-l) were interfering and I was never good enough for their precious son.

I'm glad your son is feeling better. I'm finding that grandparents actually enjoy helping out with the kids when they're not well - grandma and granddad seem to have a special healing touch, in other words they spoil them rotten with candy to make them better!

My first husband was a bum but his parents were my best friends. My second husband is a jewel but his parents are gone. So, I have a wonderful husband and wonderful inlaws, they just are not related!
