Today my little town had a Christmas parade. It's little more than a big ole advertisement for local businesses but they throw out candy and beads to the kids so we had to go. I stepped out my back door into a swarm of mosquitoes. IT'S DECEMBER! I swatted them away and managed to remain bite free. WHEW!
We walk the 2 blocks to the parade route and while surveying the situation I feel a sting in my ankle. I look down to see that we were standing near a fire ant hill. The little buggers were biting me! I wipe them off and proceed to find a prime spot right up front. This oughta be the perfect place to watch from. I kneel down and rest my tush on my feet. My son sits on my legs. We are there for a few minutes before the lady next to us says. "Ma'am, you are sitting in an ant hill." I stood up and sure enough I was covered in ants. My shoes and socks are covered and they are working their way up my capri's. That's about the time they started to bite. As I'm brushing the little %$#^&*$ ants off me she says. We had to move from there because they got me. WHAT!? She just sat there and watched me kneel near a pile KNOWING they were there?! ARG! Any who. This is further proof that these little demon spawn fire ants always find me. ALWAYS.
I had to endure the burning and itching for the next hour or so. Then it eased up. The kids got their beads and candy. They are happy to replenish their dwindling Halloween stash. We had a good time over all. Now if you will excuse me I have some ant bites to attend to.

If you lived up here, you could have rolled in the snow and frozen those fire ants, then picked up some more snow and fed it to the neutral bystander.
I hate bugs...that's one of the many reasons I do not live further South...but I DO like warm waether...so...maybe one day.
I hope you smushed them all.
Yikes! I probably would have screamed like a girl. I do OK when I SEE bugs, but once they start crawling all over me, I freak out.
Do you guys still get into the Christmas spirit with the warm weather? Here in Phoenix, it just doesn't feel the same as it did back home in NE.
Mosquitoes! That's just so wrong.
