After witnessing the help Tim got when he posed a question on his blog I decided to lay my stupidity out there for all to see. I'm going to ask all you smarty pants out there my question and see if anyone can help me.
We have moved away from ALL our family. While sending photos through email is great, I'd like to send the occasional video I have taken on my digital camera. I cannot however, figure out how to do this. When I try to send them through my camera program the files are just TOO big. I'm not big on posting it to youtube, I just want to send them to the Grammy's and Pop pops, and the Nana's and the Papas.
Now keep in mind that I'm a little dim so you might want to dumb down any answers you may submit.
Whether you help or not I hope you have a terrific weekend. Take care!

If you know how to get the video onto your computer and save it to the file, you're halfway there!
I always use Windows Movie Maker, but I'm sure any program you're using will have this option.
Okay, when saving the file, after editing it down to what you want, you go to "File" then "Save Project As" and name your file whatever you want. Then, you'll need to go back to "File" and select "Save Movie File"
Then select, "My computer"
Then type in a new name for the file.
Click next and on this page select "Other Settings"
You can use that drop-down list and select the setting "Video for broadband (512 Kbps)"
Click on next and it'll save the file. This is basically reducing the size and quality of the video, making it easier to upload to places or email to people. Keep in mind it's not magical and will not make a 10 minute video that easier to send in email, but it'll work.
I don't like using YouTube, but I highly suggest using Vimeo.com to upload your videos to. It's much more personal and not as popular as YouTube. It'd be simple for you to send your Vimeo link to your family back home to save in their favorites to go directly there when you email them that a new video is up.
Bekah hit it right on the head here, so I don't have anything more to add. Emailing probably won't be a viable option if you're talking about large videos, but her suggestion about Vimeo sounds like a winner!
yeah, I would use Picasa 2 myself, post it and label it private so that only people you invite can open the videos.
As a granny, I can tell you it's worth so much more than you would imagine.
My grandsons are my tech support. When they visit they can cut short clips off my video camera and send them in emails to family. I watch and try to learn but it just won't stay with me. I have all the stuff on my computer needed to send I just don't know what it is. I have Picasa 2 that I use to load photos so maybe that's what they use.
how about putting your videos on dvd's and sending them to the grandparents? That way they can watch them in their dvd players or their computers at their leisure...?
