Saturday project

Thank you for your help! I haven't had the chance to try it out yet but I will! I've been a little busy today.

I got a wild hair and decided to sand down the cabinets in my bathroom. The plan was to paint them black and add some new brushed nickel hardware. I had no paint. I had no new hardware. I just had the new palm sander I got for Christmas. I thought it was time I try it out. I went in and gave them a light sanding just to rough it up a little. Then I decided to go out to the shop and find the primer I thought I had. Guess what? No primer but I found something better! The previous owners have left the cans from just about everything they've ever painted, stained, or sealed. I found some black paint! Sherwin Williams black paint. Black paint that specifically said it was for cabinets! Can you believe it?!

I put the first coat of it on and found that if I went with the grain of the wood the old wood peeked through.......and I liked it! So I finished up with the first coat and decided that I'm just gonna let it dry and run it past my husband when he gets home tonight. I'm SO happy I didn't have any primer! Whattaya think so far? (I have no hardware yet so it's not finished. I also plan to do something with the counter. I want it white.)

This is the old finish. It was in good shape just a little worn.

In the middle of the mess!

This is the difference in the finishes now. I haven't put it all back together yet but it looks like new!

OH! I finished up the wood part of my ottoman. It still needs the cushions for the top but I haven't gone out to get the foam or the fabric yet. For now it just has a cushion that is too long and too narrow. It's become a favorite with my kids. They are always sitting on it or laying on it or playing on it. It makes it worth my effort!

me and your husband smell the same. Or at least we use the same deodorant.

You are brave to take on such involved home decorating projects. We are living in an entire house that we bought planning to fix it up. So far the only thing new about my cabinets is a mouse that moved in.

Yep, I like you new cabinet look. You're a genius!

Oh, watch out for Tim. He might try to pose as your husband since they smell alike.

Oh great One said...

Tim-I think it's funny that that's what you got from my post! And for the record you must smell fabulous!

Granny-I LOVE this sort of project. I've always had this in mind for this bathroom but I didn't expect to get into it like this yesterday!

I have always been parcial to dark cabinets, so I like it. How do you plan to change your counter tops? Are you going to put new tops on?

WOW! You are just a busy little beaver! I can't believe all of the projects that you are working on...and getting done, as opposed to me who has a house full of unfinished projects...OY!

That's impressive. I try not to do household stuff like that because I always make it look worse than it was before.

Sorry we couldn't get together yesterday :( I'll be around your area again, though. Mark and I need to make a trip to the Disney store for more jammies for Sam, so I'll email you about getting together later!

That looks really good! I wish I had your knack for renovating stuff, every time I try doing things like that it always ends up looking far worse than if I hadn't touched it and I end up throwing it out.

Nice. How cool that you'd take on a project like this.

I might pick myself up a power sander and follow suit.
