So I got the bright idea a couple weeks ago that the kids needed to go to the doctors and get a check up. They hadn't been there in ages because well, they hadn't been sick and it's not like when they are bitty and you have to take them at predetermined times. I figured I'd check to see if my boy was up to date on his shots before preschool and avoid any last minute problems, and my daughter just turned twelve and sick or not I wanted her to get a check up.
I went in 15 minutes early figuring I'd have to fill out paper work for both of them. So we rolled in at 1:30 and got the ball rolling. 2 exams, 6 shots, 3 suckers, 3 stickers and a Popsicle later we left. That was at 4:30. 3 HOURS later! My boy was so antsy he was practically bouncing off the walls or me or his sister who ever was closer. IT was crazy!
My boy ended up getting 4 shots. I thought he might have to get a couple but I didn't think they would give them all to him today. The age range was between 4-6 for some of the shots so I'd hoped they would wait. *sigh* They did not. Usually my husband holds my kids when they get shots and I swoop in and give them the feel better kisses and hugs when it's done. I had no choice today. It was all I could do not to cry right along side him. He was a trooper though. He held it together till number 4. He ended up with the suckers, stickers and the Popsicle.
My daughter always forgets that it's not as bad as she builds it up to be in her head. She was so tense through the first one and I'm sure it's gonna hurt like heck tomorrow. The other one was that Guardasil shot and I was able to distract her enough that she relaxed some. What booty did she rake in from the nurses that were showering her brother with stuff? Nada. Nothing. I understand that she is older but she was in the same room with him. It's not like they didn't know they were together. Lucky for her my son is sweet and he shared a sucker with her.
I know it was my children that got poked but I'm exhausted! Mentally drained from keeping them from going bonkers for the 3 hours we were there. Emotionally from watching my brave munchkins get their shots and try not to cry. Physically because my daughter is stronger than she looks and she squeezed the heck out of my hand in anticipation of that first shot! *sigh* I'm gonna go do the dishes and find a munchkin to snuggle with.
Happy Wednesday.

I always cry when Sam gets shots. I think it's a mom thing.
Glad that day is over, huh?
When Josh was getting ready to start school (8 years ago) we were waiting for the nurse to come and administer his shots and he looked at me with his sweet 6 year old face and said "I'm nervous. I don't think I can do this." I assured him that yes he could while all the while wondering how I was going to do it without crying! He was fine in the end. I was a mess.:) It is definitely a mom thing!
awww! I hate it when baby Slade gets shots!
I want to give you MAJOR props for getting your daughter the gardisil shot...good for you!!! So many people are paranoid about that shot, that it's going to make their daughters want to go out and have sex...It is so cool that you did that for her. You are an awesome mom.
I have a 37-year old daughter who hates shots so much, she has her dental work done with no anaesthetic.
It sounds like a long day and lots of stress, no wonder you were worn out. I hope there were no aches and pains the next day.
I, for one, think the Gardisil shot is still too new for me or my daughters to want it. They are still trying to work out the bugs. I hope everything goes well with your daughter. I hear that the shot is very painful, so she must be a real trooper. They should have at least given her a sucker....lol
Have a good week..
Awww poor munchkins! I hate shots to this day. As a matter of fact, I dread the day I have to give birth more so for the shots I have to get in the hospital than the actual act of pushing a child out of my hoo ha! I know, it's nuts, but I guess you can't get the good drugs without the yucky shots!
