We don't even get kissed first.

When we moved here a couple years back we found that we HAD to get cable service if we wanted any t.v. at all. There was one fuzzy station that we were able to get and that was it. My hubby signed us up for cable and they gave us a great introductory deal. The key word here is introductory. I have NEVER paid for cable in my adult life. I didn't think that it was something we needed. I still don't. So I decided we were gonna purge our little bundle plan with the cable company.

I realized that we were signed up for a service that has lots of extras for our phone. It's charging us something like 54 dollars. For 29.99 I can get the stuff we do use without paying for the stuff we don't. In addition to that I wanted to dump the extra cable channels we don't watch. I was only successful in dumping 9 dollars from our bill. WHY? Because if you choose things different from the bundled package they jack up the price. Even though it's still cable/phone/Internet it doesn't count if it's not specific packages. The customer service rep explained that he could do what we wanted him to do but that the price wouldn't change but a couple of dollars. So we'd pay the same for less service. ACK! I feel SO ripped off!

Sadly, that's how it is with our Cox service too. It was going to cost me MORE to remove some of the stupid channels that we never watch. The service was only something like $5 a month, but it would have cancelled my bundle savings. What a rip off indeed!

That is silly! I am sooo glad that we don't have to have cable. We got the digital converter box this weekend and it makes the tv come in crystal clear.

Techymike-COX is who I'm talking about! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about them! I'm hoping another company comes into our area soon.

Myutopia-You are lucky. I should probably just gut the stuff we have and see what it would cost then.

Yes, the media barons do charge an arm and a leg. My provider is ripping me off and I have to do something about that. Thanks for the reminder.

It's a conspiracy! And now, with this whole ridiculous change over to HDTV in February of next year, they will have taken over completely....unless you just stop watching tv altogether. Might not be a bad idea:)

All cable companies suck!

I wanted to get Bravo & they will not give it to anyone in my area...they won't even consider it...but do I have the golf channel? & the Chinese channel? & the fishing channel? I do & I do not want them.

All I can say is this is very, very bad customer service.

We're not allowed cable in this apartment block (no idea why not). I can't say I miss it, with Freeview (the TV signal we can get) we get about 100 channels and only ever watch BBC News and CBeebies for Madam anyway. The more I hear about cable the more I think the person who stopped it coming to this block had a point, it's madness.

Uggghh! I went through this a few years ago too and wanted to scream, it was so frustrating. The ideal thing that TSO and I have always "wished" would be the case, is that cable companies offer you each channel separately, at a fair rate, so that you don't have to pay for the crap that you don't want. I mean, I think I have about 9,000 channels that I NEVER even look at but to cancel them would cost me more...go figure!
