We are OK!

I don't care what you hear on the news. I don't care if they talk about it being downgraded to a lesser hurricane. Riding out that storm was one of the scariest things I have been through. Baton Rouge was hammered. Our town was hammered. Try telling my neighbors that the storm wasn't so bad, then help them get rid of the two HUGE trees that were snapped by the wind. Tell the people who still don't have power it wasn't a big storm. Some could be without power for WEEKS! People are waiting in line just to ENTER the handful of grocery stores that are open. You want gas? Go wait in line just to find out that they are running out of fuel just like all the other ones in town. It's stats may not have been big but Gustav packed a punch.

In the midst of the mess I feel blessed. My family was very fortunate. No real damage to our home just a horrible mess to clean up. All the trees (6 in my block) fell away from homes. Our neighbors all banded together to help each other out. We had extension cords run across the streets trying to share generator power. We were keeping tabs on everyone and their needs. We didn't lose any of the food in our fridge because of the kindness of our neighbors. In return we helped remove the debris from their yards. I'm blessed because unlike so many people in my city, county, and state I have power.

I'll post some of my pictures when I get them loaded on the computer. Right now I'm so bleary eyed the screen is fuzzy. I want to finally get a good night's sleep but my husbands place of business was flooded and he has to go supervise the clean up, who knows when he'll get home. I don't sleep well without him. *sigh* Maybe I can get some rest tomorrow night.....

Thanks for caring! It means so much more than you know.

So glad you have surfaced and checked in. Whew, it sounds like you had quite an experience and truly were fortunate. You and so many others have been on my heart and in my prayers.

I've been worried sick about you! I'm so glad that you are alright, with no real damage and that you are lucky enough to have power....I have been watching the "feeder bands" dump inch after inch of rain on you. I know that the winds were still pretty high from watching the weather channel. I just couldn't believe all of the rain falling on you.

We only got about five minutes of rain from the storm, somehow we dodged the bullet. It is still an active hurricane season so don't put your guard down just yet. I know that you have plenty of food and water and hopefully you filled you gas tank before the storm.

Isn't it wonderful how neighbors can come together in times of need. I suppose the chain saw brigaid will be out cutting up all the trees that fell down. I am really glad that the trees stayed away from you house and your neighbors too.

I await your pictures....Try to get some sleep and kiss the kids for me.

I'd been worried that you might be affected---and of course, you were. Now that I know people in the south, I guess I'm affected too---in a miniscule, all-in-the-head way. And now, I'm relieved.

Glad to hear you guys are doing ok. I saw some footage and pictures from the storm in that area and it sure did look unnerving if nothing else! Since I'm a couple of days late, I hope that you've been able to get some well deserved rest!
