Since I had a good rant. I'm not saying this one will be good but it has been a while. *wink*
My son's preschool had a picnic scheduled for today. E for Exciting field trip. The letters and the teachers beat it into our heads with notes every day saying that we were to meet at the park at 9:00. IF the weather was bad there would be class instead. Class starts at 8:30 and the start unloading the kids at 8:15am.
ANYWAY they have been predicting a 70% chance for rain today all week on the news. It's not like it was a surprise. We wake up to wet streets, overcast skies and low temperatures. I figure that even though it isn't raining at that moment there won't be a picnic at the park because all the equipment will be wet and the sand will be all mushy. I drag my little guy out of bed at 7:20am and get him ready to go to school. We leave the house at 8 just like any other school morning. We usually have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes for them to open up the school. This morning we waited and waited. When I saw the first teacher come in I asked if it was just going to be regular class today. SHE said that she lived by the park and that it was raining when she left, that's why she came to the school. She said that I should just wait in line to drop off my son. Time seems to drag on (wouldn't you know I forgot my watch). Finally the principal comes out to my truck and tells me that they just called someone and that it wasn't raining at the park so they were going to try to do the field trip anyway. Annoyed, I return home to get our picnic lunch and waste time till we need to leave for the park. When I get home I find that it is 8:40 am! I had been there for 40 minutes before anyone decided to make a call on this.
It just irked me. No one would make a call on this one. Parents started lining up behind me because they thought the same thing I did. I don't want my kid running around in the mud with a wet butt from the slide. He's still coughing from his cold and trying to suck invisible snot back up his nose. It just ain't happening. Parents were confused and teachers were confused. I think someone should have just bit the bullet and decided one way or the other about this field trip BEFORE class was supposed to start.
OH! And what's with making me fill out a permission slip for a field trip when I'M transporting him there. I'M supervising him there. I'M feeding him there. Then I'M transporting him home! What am I giving them permission for? GAH!
There. It probably doesn't make any sense (I don't feel like proofing it either so there!) BUT I feel a little better now.
OH, before I forget, I gotta tell you about a recipe for egg nog I tried this week. My daughter and I LOVE egg nog but now that I pay attention to labels and calories I was appalled to see how naughty my beloved nog was. So I tried this recipe from the Hungry Girl recipe book. I don't usually keep soy milk in the house but for this I might just have to start! It was oh so tasty! I thought I'd share in case you might be in the market for a tasty knock off.

Your nog recipe sounds yummuy, but I don't like using Splenda so I will have to pass on it. The more I read about splenda the less I like it...
The school should have stuck with the "if it is raining" plan, go to school.....If you son has been sick, he doesn't need to be out in the wet and cold....
My grandson has his fall canrival at school on Saturday and he wants me to go, so I guess I will be supporting his school and go.....He is so excited. I hope it doesn't rain.
It sounds to me like they need to come up with some new way to communicate these things like a phone tree by a certain time or an email by a certain time the day of telling parents what the deal is. I would have been highly miffed!!!
And the egg nog looks great. I bought my mom the HG cook book for Birthday in June. I'll have to check out some of those recipes for myself!!
Lucy-At first I thought Splenda was a dieters dream but I'm having my on doubts now. I do think this recipe would be just as good with regular sugar though!
Funky Bee- The cookbook uses a lot of ingredients I don't always have on hand but there are plenty that I think are worth a try!
Nope that is completely retarded that the school didn't make a proper decision and inform people well in advance. I'm with you - it's 50 degrees outside (which it was today) and it's wet and damp and you're encouraging three year olds to run around and play? Hello, germs and bugs and illnesses. The school definitely should've stuck with their, "if it rains, we have class" policy.
