It's been a rainy few days. Makes me want to clean and bake!
Since we are living in an apt these days I can't have the garden I want. While I have a yard I can't dig it up so I've resorted to pots. Slowly ever so slowly everything is either dying or getting eaten. It's really disappointing. I had a pepper plant doing so good, couple of peppers growing then POOF! It started to wilt and the pepper didn't get any bigger. I have no idea what the deal is. Spinach? Oh yes it was doing well despite the heat. Till some voracious bugs moved through my handful of plants like a buffet. Tomatoes? Gottem. Not filling out. Just making blooms that go no where. My habenero's are beautiful it's just not making any peppers. My basil is exquisite! So much so I don't think I'll be able to use it all. I may have to try dehydrating it. My last great hope is for my watermelons. I have to small melons I'm pampering. Please oh PLEASE don't die!
If you were to ask me what my dream would be, it would be to have a little piece of land, not FAR from town, but far enough to be peaceful. A HUGE garden out back with beautiful fruit trees too. I'd have a country style kitchen with room to put up all my canned produce. SIGH. I shoulda been born a few decades ago. :D Perhaps I'll have a shot at that dream if we get to move to Oklahoma.

Oh yes, come to Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains... If you cant buy a place in the country, you can visit ours:)
I bought a couple of those Topsy Turvy planters this year to try them out and I've been very disappointed. I had a bell pepper plant in one, and it died fairly quickly even with frequent watering. I have a cherry tomato plant in the other and it's very underwhelming...It's maybe 8 inches tall and has a handful of buds on it.
My tomato plant is in a pot and it's doing pretty well...has 5-6 good sized green tomatoes on it so far, which will probably ripen while I'm away on vacation next week. I think next year I'll stick with just potted plants.
I love other people's passion for growing stuff; I have a few plants but I'm always prepared for them to go belly up. We moved to a condo for many reasons, one big one of which is the prohibition on gardens and the lack of a need to own a lawnmower. I get to eat my daughter,s tomatoes and cucumbers, so it all works out.
