New Orleans

CCB is numbing his brain with a little PS2 so I have some time to check in with you. We went to the zoo yesterday and I have to say it was the most beautiful zoo I've ever been to. There was some evidence of the hurricane but overall it was incredible.

We didn't venture around the city of New Orleans much yesterday. At first we were on a mission just to find the zoo and when we left we were all so drained from the heat that we just wanted to get home. However the parts of city we did see were intriguing. Some of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen next to houses that were still in need of repair. There were places that were just bulldozed next to places that seemed to be untouched. What struck me the most was that there were still houses with the markings the search crews put on them. You saw them on the news I'm sure. The big x with a date and various letters standing for whatever they found inside. It was kind of eerie. I'm glad I was unclear on what the letters stood for.

The traffic was incredible! It was bumper to bumper just about everywhere we went! I had to stop watching the road because my sudden intakes of breath were startling CCB. The brake on my side of the car didn't work anyway so why keep trying? I don't know if the whole city was as busy as the route we took but it was quite a surprise. There were campaign signs everywhere! It was crazy! I wonder who will take over the "Chocolate City".

Well I'm off to catch up on your blogs. Have a good day!

Do you ever listen to Walton & Johnson? They'd played this parody of "Margaritaville" right after Nagen called it "Chocolate City" and the song was "Chocolateville." Hilarious.

Glad you guys had fun at the zoo! Have a good weekend.

My son is in New Orleans right now doing some dry wall work. It really has made an impression on him.

For future reference: drivers in New Orleans are required to show their certificate of insanity before they are given a license. They must be, because 99% of them are nuts. (Chalk this up to a very looooong night on Bourbon Street several years ago;)) The zoo, however, is absolutely beautiful.

Glad you had a good time at the zoo. My N.O. friends who moved here because of Katrina say it is really beautiful.

The same crooks that stole the levee money. It is and will always be a crooked town full of thieves!

Why "Chocolate City?"

I've never been to the zoo in NoLa, I'll have to make that a priority the next time I visit. Luckily it looks like the markings on that house means they found zero dead! Glad you had a wonderful time, sounds like the heats getting unbearable down there already. Same thing happened to my A.C. last year. I had it replaced a month ago in preparation for this summer. It cost me $3400 and that was a discount - but it is a top of the line piece of machinery - 2 compressors (whatever that means)! My uncle owns a heating and ac company and did it for cost. I hope you don't have to deal with that!!! I could send my uncle down ;O)

Oh and our friends who live in NO said that traffic has become unbearable down there. So weird!
