The weather was perfect for their annual trip to Lake McConaughey. It was always a big party there on Memorial Day weekend. This year would be different though. For the first time she was coming without a date or her best friend. She was still with the usual crowd but at that age the couples change and rearrange all the time, and this time she was odd girl out. This year would be a little different but she was up for it.

The party started early or had it ever stopped? Who knows. One day blended into another, meeting strangers, drinking, boating, and beach volleyball. That night her groups camp site turned out to be a hot spot, attracting people from all over the beach. She had a great time mingling and meeting all the cute guys. As the night wore on the party started to die out much like the camp fire, a little at a time. Her friends were slowly creeping off to their tents. Only a few people from other campsites lingered. She needed to go to the restroom but was discouraged because of the long trek across the beach and through the motor homes to get to the port-a-potty. A fella she'd been chatting with offered to escort her through the dark.

So they headed off into the night with the guys brother in tow. They made it to the port-a-potty and she did her business, a result of the nights drinking, no doubt. On the way back the fella asks if they could stop off at his motor home so he could get a sweatshirt. She agrees. The guy climbs into the motor home and his brother stays outside with the girl. The guy is in there for quite some time before the brother decides to go check on him. A few minutes later the brother returns and says that the guy has passed out in the back and that she should go wake him. She hesitates a minute then disappears inside. She finds her way to the back and nudges the guy. Nothin. He doesn't budge. Warning bells are going off in her head, she's gone too far now. After the nudge she starts to quickly make her way to the front. This doesn't feel right. Her friends don't even know she's gone. The guy calls for her to come back. So much for him sleeping!

She climbs down out of the bus and the brother stops her. Still playing his role he asks why she didn't "wake him up". She says that he's awake he'll be fine. She's afraid he won't let her leave. She fears that he'll force her back into the motor home where she will be trapped with the two of them. Why had she ever left her camp with them? She'd only talked to him for 20-30 minutes she didn't know what kind of guy he was. Luckily they weren't that determined. She made her way back through the trees and onto the beech. The campsite was dead now. No one stirring but her. She climbed into her tent and thought about how stupid she had been and how lucky she was. She would never be so careless again.

I say!

Was Lake McConaughey named after George McConaughey of Kitale? Famed for his prowess on the polo field, in the late 50s.

You could have put any date from 01-01-01 on that post and unfortunately, it would be true.

Yikes. Thank goodness we sometimes have the opportunity to learn from hindsight, and our mistakes and not always from "the hard way".

I just had to come over here (again) (gosh I'm getting stalkery) (must go to bed soon) (must stop using parentheses).

Anyways. Yes. I had to come say Yay! to you for being the only reader to actually figure out that those links lead somewhere! 18 gold stars awarded to OGO for sheer brilliance and adult literacy and such!
