Feelin' crafty

I decided I needed to find some project to work on. In my house I'd be out working in the yard or fixing or changing something in the house. Here, well, I don't have that option. So I decided I would go through my tote of left over yarn. I have some ancient stuff in there. Stuff I picked up on clearance ages ago, stuff that was left over from other projects and novelty stuff that I really didn't have plans for but I wanted to try it anyway. Lots of bits and pieces.

I found that it would be a bit of a challenge finding projects that I really WANTED to do with the small amounts of different colors I had. There was some that were full skeins and others that were truly just tidbits. So far I have crocheted two bucket hats for winter, two curly scarfs, and now I'm finishing up the handles of a "market bag". I've made a dent in that storage box of yarn. Any of you crafters have a cool pattern for scrap yarn to share?

Have you heard of log cabin squares, see http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/afghans/log-cabin-square.htm. I'm doing it as my "brain in neutral" project, and it's a brilliant way of using up brightly coloured DK yarn.

I make an afghan every fall from scraps in a random ripple pattern---they're usually bright but not squared off because of the difference in the weight of the yarns. I give it to the local food bank. We use white glue and coloured yarn to "draw" with too. some of the pictures are really nice--yarn makes good hair and manes.
