Tree

I'm a little frustrated right now. I've decided to try to fill in my family tree. On my mothers side I can get to my great grandparents. Not terribly far back but it's a start. On my fathers side I have....well....I have my father. I never met his father, I found out his name but have no other information. The woman I have known as my grandmother apparently doesn't have any BLOOD ties to me. (It doesn't mean I don't love her, she's all I've known but it's a bit of a blow.) It seems my biological grandmother walked away from my dad. Don't know why. He has never spoken about it. Don't know her name. Don't know anything about her. *sigh* I asked my mother for the date of her marriage to my father and she couldn't remember it. She has told me the story of the day they wed but I never got a date. Up till now I didn't ask because I had the feeling it would make people sad or upset them some how. I think I have to stop that. I want to know about my family...

I feel kinda weird about all this. I have been near tears tonight trying to track down info. Nothing has changed in my life but I feel like there is now a gaping hole in my family line. Never missed it before. I do now though.

I will send you some genealogy links that Ron uses. He gets great results from many free sites on the internet. It is great to find out things about our heritage.

Oh Granny Annie that would be wonderful. I keep looking into sites but they end up not being free at all. I would be willing to pay if I was confident they were going to get me what I need but so far the info they've provided hasn't done me any good. Thank you!

A few years ago I got my MIL a genealogy thing for Christmas. It was a web site but I guess what I paid for was a membership to the site? I don't think she ever used it, I'll ask her and let you know.

Trying to trace your family tree is so hard but so important. A few years ago I started asking my parents thing about their families, like where my grandparents met, when they came to the U.S. and why (both my parents were born in another country). It's so interesting to hear but above and beyond that, you want to know about your family and their legacy. I hope you find some things OGO and I'll try to get you, if nothing else, the name of the site that my MIL used. Good luck!

things like this remind us how important it is to tell the kids stories....

Good for you for digging...my dad's done this for both sides of my family & it's lead to visits overseas to see many people who filled in many blanks...so, it can be done...good luck.

Finally remembered to ask Ron about free genealogy websites. familysearch.com
ancestry.com (some not free)
Also go to any county and state and type in genealogy.
I will try to get more and he drinks more coffee and wakes up a bit.

Thank you Granny Annie! I'm already tinkering with ancestry dot com but I'll look into the other one as well. I'm thinking I might purchase a month subscription to the Ancestry site to see if it gives me what I'm looking for. Not every site gives you the opportunity to try it out for a month. :) I appreciate your help!
